The Montessori Method is not just a way of teaching…..   it is an approach to life!

It is an approach in which the child feels empowered and learns the importance of respecting themselves, their peers, their environment as well as their teachers. They learn how to be compassionate, and empathetic, how to be polite and courteous and how to speak their mind and stand up for themselves! Maria Montessori’s methods of teaching are based on the great capacity and desire of very young children to explore the world through their senses. We, at Buena Vista Montessori capitalize on that curiosity and guide them to make discoveries, explore the world around them, take pride in their ‘work’ and develop confidence through hands-on activities that empower them and promote independence.

The Montessori Method develops the whole personality of the child, not merely his/her intellectual faculties. Children develop creativity, social skills, cooperation, independence, responsibility, confidence, self-discipline, problem solving, critical thinking, and above all, respect for others and for the world around them! Lessons in grace and courtesy teach respect for self and others and promote positive social interaction and development. As well, our non-competitive environment encourages children to learn and work towards achieving an intrinsic reward rather than external reinforcement to please others.

The beauty of the Montessori Method is that it focuses on self directed learning and helps each child develop their full potential by allowing them to work at their own pace, according to their own unique needs and abilities. Everything in our classroom is geared towards the children’s needs and our goal is to instill in each child an insatiable love for learning!
