Buena Vista Montessori Preschool

At Buena Vista Montessori Preschool, we are very fortunate to have a beautiful outdoor play space that provides a unique and meaningful stage for discovery, learning, free play and physical activity.   We spend a great deal of time outdoors and we strive to instill in each child an appreciation and a love for nature. Being outside in a natural environment is the most powerful tool to turn on a child’s curiosity, creativity, and imagination and we love that we are able to provide so many outdoor opportunities to cultivate a connection to the outdoor world.  During outdoor time at Buena Vista Montessori, the children can be seen pulling one another in the wagons, zipping down the slide, persevering across the monkey bars, drawing with chalk on the long brick path, creating sandcastles and digging in the sandbox.  During the Fall, the preschoolers love to rake the leaves with child-sized rakes and a Fall day isn’t complete without jumping in a giant pile of leaves!  During the winter, the children love to play in the snow, build snowmen, examine ice as well as shovel snow with child-sized snow shovels. During Spring time, the children take part in a variety of planting activities, they help tend to the garden, they help water the flowers, and they enjoy sweeping the walkway with brooms that are just their size.  We take the children outside rain or shine and no matter what the weather brings, you can always hear the sound of children laughing and playing and there are always plenty of opportunities for outdoor discoveries! Throughout the school year the children help look after our outdoor bunnies named Bella & Mango, and a few highlights of each school year include picnic lunches outside,  our annual “Dinosaur Dig” in the sandbox, bird-watching with child sized binoculars, our Teddy Bear Picnic and of course our outdoor African safari.
